No matter how much you trust your pedal-power prop or fin drive, you never want to be up a proverbial creek without a you-know-what. You know the old expression; two is one and one is none. Well, the pedal drive is one. The fishing kayak paddle is the redundant measure you need if you ever (God forbid) have drive trouble on the water. Plus, sometimes it makes sense to retract the drive unit and use the pedal to sneak into shallow or weedy pocket water. You never know, and bringing along a kayak paddle as a backup is a hedge against the uncertainty of being on the water that also affords a ton of flexibility for going where a pedal drive just can’t take you.
